Founded in 1898, "The Home" has provided housing and support to indigent seniors in Tampa for over a century in its large beautiful building shaded by porches and enormous old oaks near Ybor City.

From the beginning, an all volunteer women's board served as operators of "The Old People's Home" (its original name) and eventually as landlords, as The Home evolved into a professionally run certified skilled nursing facility (SNF). That professional SNF operator purchased it in 2023.

The proceeds from the sale formed the basis of a new foundation, the Tampa Legacy Elder Fund (TLEF), which is still run by that all-woman volunteer board and one brave male as executive director.

AND NOW...

Continuing its original mission of helping older adults, TLEF offers grant funding aimed at enhancing, improving, or expanding existing programs that benefit older adults in Hillsborough County.

We will also consider new programs with the potential to make a measurable impact, including ideas that haven’t found a funding source.

We are looking to fund:

• innovative programs

• out-of-the-box thinking

• bold new solutions

• proven strategies

Areas of Interest

TLEF supports programs that make a difference in the identified and unmet needs of Hillsborough County's senior population through donations and grants to, or partnerships with, local non-profit organizations.

TLEF will consider grants in the areas mentioned below, but is not necessarily limited to those.

Elder Hunger

Right now, one in six older adults is struggling to find enough to eat, leading to health problems and social isolation. We're looking for innovative ways to eliminate this crisis.

Elder Housing

As our population ages, the shortage of livable, affordable, service-enriched housing seems to reflect not only a lack of money but a lack of imagination by private and public providers.

Elder Justice

Elder abuse can take many forms, and the solutions should, too. Legal and social services as well as access to medical care are all critical to an effective holistic approach.

These are problems that require compassion, expertise, collaboration, imagination, innovation and, of course, money.

Once we have received the form below, we will come back to you.

Grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded in this initial cycle, with the potential for additional funding for programs and initiatives that prove to be successful.

TLEF will not make donations to the following: individuals, fundraising drives, religious activities, litigation, or political activities.
